Above sum is sum of terms of arithmetic progression (A.P)

First term of A.P = 70

Common difference = -2

Last term 40 is

tn = a + (n-1)d = 40

70 + (n-1)(-2) = 40

n = 16

Sum of 40 temrs is

Sn = (n/2) [ 2a + (n-1) d ] = (16/2) [ 2(70) + (16-1)(-2) ] = 880
