Federalism is system of government in which power is divided between a central authority and various constituent units of the country. Usually, a federation has two levels of government. One is the national government which is responsible for certain particular issues and matters of national interest. The other is the provincial or state governments which shoulder the responsibility of day-to-day administration at the local or regional level. In an ideal federal system, both these levels of the Government enjoy their power independently of each other.
