Explain the meaning of the term ‘Secular’ in the context of the Indian Constitution.

The word ‘Secular’ was inducted in the Preamble of the Constitution of India in order to establish that all religious faiths command equal respect and recognition from the Indian State. Citizens of India are free to profess any religion of their choice unless it goes against the peace, security and integrity of the country. The principles of secularism implies that every Indian citizen is viewed as equal in the eyes of the law and enjoys equal rights irrespective of his or her faith, caste, colour or creed.
