Explain howintermolecular force and intermolecular space decide the state of matter of a substance

Expert Answer
When intermolecular force increases than intermolecular distance decreases. When molecules are closest to each other it is solid and when intermolecular distance increases or intermolecular force decreases then it turns into liquid. When further more decrease in intermolecular force then intermolecular distance becomes high and it turns into a gas.
