The thrid pin in a 3 pin plug longer than the other two pins.It is made longer so that it gets connected to the earth terminal earlier than the live and neutral pins. This ensures the safety of the user.

difference between a beta particle and an electron:

Beta particle are high-speed electron or positron, usually emitted by an atomic nucleus undergoing radioactive decay, where as eletrons are stationary

this is the only difference between electron and beta particle
