CBSE Class 12-science Answered

an object on projectile lands with the same velocity as that of the initial velocity. it is applicable to projectile on horizontal plane. But is it applicable to projectile on an inclined plane? so my doubt is that does an object on projectile on inclined plane lands with the same velocity as that of the initial velocity?

No. An object projected at a point with a velocity v and with angle of projection θ  on inclined plane
will not reach with same velocity when it reach another point on inclined plane.

On horizontal plane , initial kinetic energy is used as workdone to move the object to a vertical height h .
After utilizing all the kinetic energy, the object's velocity in vertical direction becomes zero,
then gravitational field is doing work on the object to move vertically downwards.

When the object comes down vertically downward by travelling same distance h , then workdone by gravitational field is
same as initial kinetic energy . Hence The object reaches the ground level with same velocity.

Whereas in inclined plane , when the object moves downward due to gravitational field, downward vertical distance
travelled is less than upward  vertical distance travelled.

Less down ward distance means less workdone , hence less kinetic energy of object ,
hence less velocity when the object reaching the inclined plane.

In above explanation , it is assumed that the object is projected from the bottom of slope of inclined plane.
