JEE Class main Answered
A train of mass 16800 Kg is pulled by its locomotive with a force of 10000 N and its speed increases from 10 ms-1 to 12 ms-1 in a distance of 50 m. Calculate the resistive force assumed constant in that distance.

Expert Answer
mass of train, m = 16800 kg
u = 10 m/s
v = 12 m/s
s = 50 m
v2 - u2 = 2as
122 - 102 = 2a(50)
100a = 144 - 100
a = 44/100 = 0.44 m/s2
Thus,
Force = mass x acceleration
= 0.44 x 16800 = 7392 N
