Given, length of floor = 50 cm
Breadth of floor = 31 cm

Length of floor bordered with black marble = 2 cm + 2 cm = 4 cm
Breadth of floor bordered with black marble = 1 cm + 1 cm = 2 cm

Length available = 50 - 4 = 46 cm
Breadth available = 31 - 2 = 29 cm

To find maximum length, we need to find HCF of 46 and 29
factors of 46 = 1, 2, 23, 46
factors of 29 = 1, 29

The highest common factor here is 1.

Hence, the maximum length of the block is 1 cm.
