Expert Answer
Remainder when 2x^3 + 4x^2 - 5 is divided by (x + 3) is the value of the expression at x = -3
Remainder = 2(-3)^3 + 4(-3)^2 - 5 = -54 + 36 - 5 = -23
It is completely divisible by (x + 3) when we subtract - 23 i.e. adding 23.
For quotient, 2x^3 + 4x^2 - 5 + 23 = 2x^3 + 4x^2 + 18
Using synthetic division, we get the quotient as (2x^2 - 2x + 6)
