A CAR STARTS FROM REST AND ATTAINS A VELOCITY OF 10M/S IN 40 SECONDS. THE DRIVER APPLIES BRAKES AND SLOWS DOWN THE CAR TO 5M/S IN 10 SECONDS. FIND THE ACCELARATION OF THE CAR IN BOTH THE CASES

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.
Thus acceleration = (Final velocity-initial velocity)/time taken
 
In first case: a = (10-0)/40 = 0.25 m/s2
 
In second case: a = (5-10)/10 = -0.5 m/s2
