In a car there is never constant power made by engine. The power builds up as we increase the input of fuel in engine, while opening up the throttle.
There is always more acceleration at lower gears. Basically at lower gears there is a higher gear ratio in the transmission and thus higher acceleration but as speed builds up we turn up the gears and they have a lower gear ratio and thus lesser acceleration, but it does not mean that speed is lower but ir is actually higher than that at lower gears.
More basics can be seen at higher standards
