5 g of calcium combine with 2 g of oxygen.Find the molecular formula of the compound. (Atomic mass of Ca = 40 u ; O = 16 u)

No of moles of Ca = 5 g/ 40 gmol-1  =  0.12 
 
No of moles of Oxygen = 2 g/ 16g mol-1 =  0.12
 
This shows that Ca and oxygen are combining in 1: 1 ratio, so the compound formed is CaO.
