- Secondary data is the data collected by other people.
It is not first-hand data. It is collected by someone in the past for his/her own use but is used by another researcher later on.
- Sources of secondary data are published sources and unpublished sources. Published sources include government publications, semi-government publications, reports of committees and commissions, publications of trade associations and research institutions, journals and papers and international publications. On the contrary, unpublished sources contain data gathered by government organisations for their use but not published anywhere.
- Primary data are always collected directly from the individuals who constitute the universe of study. It is collected for the first time from the source of origin.
- Pilot survey is conducted to assess the quality of questionnaire. It is done to check the quality of questions and to see if any modifications are required in the questions.
