(a) The south-west monsoon winds bring rainfall in India. In India, rains is considered important because agriculture is dependent on it. Apart from this, water is also used in various other activities like industrial production and domestic use.

  • South west monsoon season (rainy)
  • Season of retreating monsoons (autumn)


(c) The vegetation which grows and sustains without interference or help from human beings are called natural vegetation.The vegetation includes trees, shrubs, grasses, etc.

(d) The different types of vegetation found in India are:

  • Tropical rainforests or evergreen forests
  • Tropical deciduous forests
  • Thorny bushes
  • Mountain vegetation
  • Mangrove forests

Evergreen Forests

Deciduous Forests

These forests occur in the areas which receives heavy rainfall.

These forests occur in area wherein the rainfall is between  70 to 200cm.

The trees of these forests shed their leaves at different times of a year.

They can be majorly found in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Western Ghats and some parts of Bengal.

They can be majorly found in Orissa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and in some parts of Maharashtra.

Important trees of these forests are mahogany, ebony and rosewood.

Important trees found in these forests are sal, teak, peepal, neem and shisham.



(f) The tropical rainforest is also called evergreen forest because trees in these forests shed their leaves at different times of the year. Therefore, it remains green throughout the year.
