Class 8 MAHARASHTRA STATE TEXTBOOK BUREAU Solutions Science Chapter 16: Reflection of Light

Reflection of Light Exercise Exercise

Solution 1-i

Answer: Normal

Solution 1-ii

Answer: Diffused

The rough surface on which the ray of light is incident reflects the light in different directions. These results into the irregular reflections of light. This irregular reflection is also called diffused reflection.

Solution 1-iii

Answer: reflection of light

The principal behind the working of a Kaleidoscope is that a number of images are formed by mirror placed at an angle to another.

Solution 2

Given that,

Angle of incidence, i1 = 30°

Now,

According to law of reflection we know that

i1 = r1 = 30°

Now,

From the above ray diagram, we can see that the angle of reflection and angle of incident for second reflection will be 60°.

i.e., For ΔABC we get

θ =180 - 60 - 90 = 30°

therefore i2 = 90 - θ = 60°

Solution 3

In a dark room, there is no light, Consequently, no light falls on the surfaces of objects, hence we cannot see them. This is why we can't see objects in a dark room.

Solution 4

Solution 5

Solution 6-i

Yes, there is a connection between light reflection and image blurring.

Solution 6-ii

The water was initially calm and its surface was smooth. As a result, regular type of reflection occurred from its surface, i.e., all light rays coming from Swara's or Yash's bodies reflected in the same direction when they hit the water surface and reached our eyes. As a result, we saw a clear image.

However, when Yash threw a stone into the water, the water surface became rough, resulting in an irregular type of reflection of light, i.e., all light rays coming from Swara's or Yash's bodies reflected in different directions when they hit the water surface. As a result, only a portion of the reflected rays reached our eyes. As a result, the image is blurred.

Solution 6-iii

Yes, laws of reflection are valid for both regular as well as irregular reflections.

Solution 7a

Given that,

∠i = 90- 40° = 50°

Now,

According to law of reflection we know that.

∠i = ∠r

∴ ∠r = 50°

Solution 7b

Given that,

Angle of reflection, r = 90 -23° = 67°

Now,

According to law of reflection we know that.

∠i = ∠r

∴ ∠i = 67°
