Mendel selected garden pea plant for his hybridisation experiments because these plants had a short life cycle and visible and sharp contrasting traits. They could either be self-fertilised or cross-pollinated to obtain progeny. 

Pod height was not studied by Mendel in his hybridisation experiments. 

In a monohybrid cross, in the F₂ generation, 1/4^th of the plants would be dwarf. Hence, out of 68 plants, 17 would be dwarf.
