When electric current passes through a wire of high resistance, it causes heating effect due to electric current.

According to Joule’s law, heat produced in the wire depends on the resistance of the wire. 

According to Joule’s law, heat produced in the wire is directly proportional to square of the current, time for which the current passes and resistance of the wire.
