ICSE Class 6 Answered
The Egyptians were polytheists and worshipped gods and goddesses connected with nature. Ra, the Sun god, and Osiris, the god of the blessed dead, were among the most important gods. The pharaohs were also deemed to be gods and were worshipped likewise. Gods had their own temples, and every city, town and village had their own patron gods. Animals and birds (e.g. jackal, crocodile, bull and hawk) were also worshipped. People believed in the afterlife, and hence, dead bodies were preserved by embalming them with spices and fine linen wrappings. Such a preserved body is known as a mummy. The pyramids were the tombs of the pharaohs and food, wine, clothes, furniture, jewellery and weapons were put into such tombs.
