  1. The Equatorial regions are found in the Brazilian Highlands, Amazon Basin, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Zaire Basin.

  2. Since the Equatorial region is near the Equator, it has a hot and wet climate. The days and nights are of equal duration throughout the year. The temperature ranges between 250C to 300C. The mornings are pleasant and sunny and then the temperature begins to rise. The nights are however cooler.

The Equatorial region receives heavy rainfall throughout the year. The region receives about 175 to 250 cm of rainfall. Generally, the rainfall is of the convectional type though mountainous areas may receive orographic rainfall.

  1. Due to the hot and wet climate, equatorial regions have a thick forest cover. In the Amazon Basin, the forest cover is known as the Tropical Rain Forests. These forests are also known as Evergreen Forests. The vegetation in the Tropical Forests has four layers- emergent layer, canopy, understorey and forest floor. Some of the main species of the trees are ebony, mahogany, rosewood and cinchona.
