The particles of clayey soil are tightly packed leaving no air spaces between them. This does not let the roots to breathe and in turn, hinders their growth. On their hand, loamy soil is made up of equal proportions of clay and sand. There is sufficient space between the particles of this soil to hold enough air and water for the roots. It is most suited for plant growth because it contains a good amount of plant nutrients in the form of humus.
