UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) originally known as United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (the words ‘International’ and ‘Emergency’ were dropped in 1953) was established in 1946. It was established to provide emergency aid to the children and their mothers in the devastated countries after the Second World War.

Its headquarters is located in New York.
