Who were the Protestants

The Protestants are related to the Reformation Movement. The Reformation was a collection of sixteenth century religious movements launched by Christians against certain malpractices of the Roman Catholic Church and the clergy. The main target of these movements was the Pope, the head of the clergy. These movements led to a split in the Christian Church. One group remained loyal to the Pope and the other broke away from the Church at Rome. The former group is known now as the ‘Roman Catholics’ whereas the latter is known as the ‘Protestants’.
