Tissue which provides protection to the plant is known as protective tissue.

Examples of protective tissue:

(a) Epidermis: Epidermis of leaves secretes a waxy water-proof material (cuticle) which protects inner soft tissues.
(b) Cork: Cork cells in the bark prevent the entry of microorganisms and pests.
