What were Mahavira's teachings?
Mahavira believed in simple living. He taught people three things which were known as tri-ratnas or three jewels of life—Right faith, Right knowledge and Right behaviour. He believed in ahimsa or non-violence. He did not want his followers to kill or harm any living thing. He was against rituals and animal sacrifices. He considered all people to be equal and opposed the caste system.
