Expert Answer
During the Neolithic Age, village settlements became self-sufficient because human needs were basically simple. Everything needed by the members of the settlement was produced within the village itself. Payments for services rendered of any kind were made in kind. A potter provided people with pots and got in return food grains for subsistence. Such a system of exchanging services and goods is known as the barter system.
