Expert Answer
Great scholars, poets and dramatists emerged from the Roman civilisation and the work produced by them was influenced by Greek literature in particular. Latin was the state language of the empire which was later adopted by other European countries. The epic poems of Virgil, the short poems or odes of Horace, the political literature of Cicero and plays by Plautus and Terence all contributed greatly to the development of Latin literature.
