Buoyant force or buoyancy is the force exerted on an object that is wholly or partially immersed in a fluid.
Buoyancy acts upward and it is caused by differences in pressure acting on top and bottom sides of an object
immersed in static fluid. Pressure variations in a fluid are typically caused by gravity( since P = P0+ρgh ).
The pressure on bottom of an object is greater than the top (since pressure increases with depth).
The force (Pt×A) on top pushes down, while the force (pb×A) on the bottom pushes up, since force is normal
to surface. The direction of net force due to the fluid is upward.
According to Archimedes principle, the magnitude of buoyant force FB on an object is equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces.
FB = ρ×g×Vdisp
Vdisp is the volume of displaced liquid volume. ρ is density.
Object immersed in fluid have an apparent weight W', i.e., its actual weight is reduced by buoyant force
W' = (ρo - ρf)×g×V
ρo and ρf are densities of object and fluid respectively. From the above equation, it is obvious, if density of fluid is
greater than density of object, then the object floats else it sinks
