The Ant and the grasshopper
One summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about chirping and singing to its heart's content. He saw an Ant passing by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn. As he raised his eyes to look closely at the ant he saw that there were a lot ants queued up one another, carrying different kinds of foods.
"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "Instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"
"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; we have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.
When the winter came the Grasshopper found itself dying of hunger, while he saw the ants distributing, every day, corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. The grasshopper fragged himself in the blistering cold to the anthill and begged for them to give him something to eat. The ants took pity on him and decided to help him. The grasshopper had learnt his lesson. Hard work is the best way to prepare for the days of necessity.
