What does a municipality consists of?

A municipality has three organs:
- A General Board or Council: It consists of members which are elected by the residents of the city or town. Seats reserved for women, scheduled castes and tribes.
- The President and a Vice-President: A President and Vice-President are elected in a municipality from among its members. This person has to reside over the meetings of the municipality.
- Municipal Commissioner: He/She is in charge of the administration of the municipality. He/She looks after the day to day administration, distribution of work among the officers, preparation of the budgets and grants licenses and contracts. He is appointed by the State Government.
