1. As a boy belonging to the Bania family, he usually wore a shirt with a dhoti or pyjama. Sometimes, he also wore a coat.
2. In London, while studying law, he was mostly dressed in a western suit.
3. He continued wearing Western dress while practicing law at Johannesburg, South Africa.
4. In 1913, at Durban, Gandhi wore a lungi and a kurta protesting against the shooting of Indian coal miners.
5. When he returned to India in 1915, he began to dress like a Kathiawari peasant.
6. It was only in 1921 that he began to wear short dhoti. The short dhoti remained his dress code till his death.
