The mercury is used in thermometer:
because mercury is in liquid state at room temperature and it expands or contracts with an increase or decrease in the temperature as mercury has low thermal capacity, high heat conductivity, inertness in relation to a glass capillary tube and a high boiling point, it is an ideal thermometric liquid except for its relatively high melting point.
