Writing an English paper can be troublesome sometimes. But if you have a good command over language and have read your textbooks and novels thoroughly, you will do well in your exam.

Some tips that can come handy:

How to present?

Reading comprehension:

This is the easiest section if you read the passages carefully. The answers are in the passage right in front of you. All you have to do is read to find them.

Writing Section:

Understand your topic so that you can use relevant information from the knowledge you have gathered while studying.

Remember to follow the formats wherever necessary because the format fetches marks too.

Short answer and Long answer Questions

This section, although may come across as lengthy and time consuming, can be handled well if you have read the texts well.

For example, if the question is about Anne Sullivan begin by introducing her using expressions that highlight her reason in Helen’s life. The next thing to include in your answer is a background of Miss Sullivan; where she came from and how she ended up visiting the Keller family. Moving on, describe Miss Sullivan’s initial struggle with Helen and gradually introduce the moment when Miss Sullivan and Helen finally bonded over their first lesson amidst nature. Include anecdotes from various stages of Helen’s life and how Miss Sullivan played a crucial role in leading her star student towards the light. Finally, include Helen’s thoughts and gratitude about Miss Sullivan and how thankful she is to have a teacher like her without whom she would have never come out of her dark purposeless life that she was living as a child.

How to use new words? How to identify the meanings of the words?

Read extensively and use a dictionary to understand the meanings of new words. For example, a day before the exam, you can read the newspaper or an appropriate magazine for a couple of hours to grasp as much vocabulary as you can.

How to impress the invigilator?

Examiners are bound by rules when they check your paper the same way students are. You know the paper pattern and the marking scheme. You have had an entire year at your disposal to prepare for the exam, and a qualified pool of teachers and mentors always happy to help you.

The key to impressing your invigilator is to utilise all the resources you have at your disposal. Write your paper in a way that will make it easier for the examiners to follow their rules. So, in other words, do your best and the invigilator will know that you have when they see your answers.

All the best!
