this problem is based on conservation of linear momentum.
 
Initial momentum was zero. After explosion if we use the principle of conservation of linear momentum
we will get
8×6 + 4×v = 0. hence mantiude of V = 12 m/s
 
hence kinetic energy of 4 kg mass which is moving with velocity 12 m/s is
(1/2)×4×12×12 = 288J
