Power sharing is true spirit of democracy because:

• It is one of the foundational principles on which the concept of democratic rule is based.
• In a democracy, the people have a right to be consulted on how they should be governed and all the citizens tend to have the same political and legal right.
• Power sharing helps to reduce the possibility of conflict between social groups. Each individual and community has a say in governance through their elected representatives. This is the essence of power sharing which grants equal rights to each citizen and attempts to reduce the possibility of social friction and unrest among communities through peaceful solution of conflicts. 
• It helps in maintaining political and social stability in the country. It is because the majority and the minority communities work together to achieve a common goal.
• People have the right to be consulted on how they are to be governed. Thus, a legitimate government, is one where citizens, through participation, acquire a stake in the system.
