Opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal.

AD = BC
2x = 2y + 2
x - y = 1 ... (i)

Perimeter of a quadrilateral ABCD = AB + BC + CD + AD
→ 40 = 3x + 2y + 2 + 3x + 2x           ....(AB = CD)
→ 40 = 8x + 2y + 2
→ 4x + y = 19  ... (ii)

Adding (i) and (ii), we get

5x = 20 → x = 4

4 - y = 1  ... from (i)

→ y = 3
