Answer:

2x2 - 3x - 5 can be written as,

(x - α)(x - β) then

x2 - (α + β)x + αβ, comparing to the given polynomial

α + β = 3/2         .... (1),

αβ = -5/2               ... (2),

Dividing (1) by (2),

1/α + 1/β = -3/5

       
Now,

α + β = 3/2

Squaring both sides and subtracting 2,

(α + β)2 - 2αβ= 9/4 - 5

α2 + β2 = -11/4
