Migration is an important determinant of population change. Explain.
Migration is the movement of people across different states and regions. When people migrate within the boundaries of the country, it is called internal migration. International migration refers to the migration of people between countries.
Migration is an important determinant of population change as it not only changes the size of population but also affects the population composition of urban and rural areas.
If we take an example of India, we find that the urban population of the country has increased from 17.2% in 1951 to 27.7% in 2001 due to the migration of people from villages to the cities in search for better job opportunities.
