I have to cycle a certain distance in the course of a day. I ride 1/8 of the whole journey before breakfast, 2/5 between breakfast and lunch , 3/10 between lunch and tea. What fraction of the journey remains? If the whole distance is 80 km, how much do I ride in each interval?

Let's convert all the fractions (indicating distance covered) into like fractions.
1/8 = 5/40, 2/5 = 16/40 and 3/10 = 12/40
Adding all the fractions will give us the part of the journey covered.
So, the fraction of journey covered = 5/40 + 16/40 + 12/40 = 33/40
Thus, fraction of journey remains to be covered = 7/40
Since, the total distance is 80 km
Journey covered in the first ride = 1/8 x 80 = 10 km
Journey covered in the second ride = 2/5 x 80 = 32 km
Journey covered in the thrid ride = 3/10 x 80 = 24 km
Total journey covered = 66 km
