Switch
A switch is a key or an ON-OFF device that carries electricity in a circuit or in the gadget. It is made of an insulator (i.e. a poor conductor of electricity) such as ebonite or bakelite.
Insulators
Materials that do not allow electricity to pass through them are called as insulators. Insulators oppose electric current, and therefore, they are used as protection from the dangerous effects of electricity. Example: Plastic, rubber, pure water, mica, wood, glass and thermocol.
Conductors
Materials that allow electricity to pass through them are called as conductors.
The conductors conduct electric current. Metals are good conductors of electricity. Electric wires are made of metals that act as conducting materials, and therefore, they are used to make electrical circuits. Example: Copper, silver, gold and aluminium.
