Expert Answer
In Act I Sc3 Antonio and Bassanio decide to meet up with Shylock to finance Bassanio's venture to win Portia. With great reluctance Shylock, a Jewish moneylender, agrees to lend the amount of 3,000 ducats. However, before lending Bassanio the money Shylock plans to trap him in a vicious contract. He wants to avenge all the insults of Antonio, who is a benevolent Christian. So in order to save his friend from the evil clutches of the greedy Jew, Bassanio asks his friend Antonio not sign the bond.
