• Plains which are flat surface of land have been the birth place of the human civilisation. Several ancient civilisations originated on plains near the river banks due to fertile soil. Even now, plains are densely populated as they support agricultural activities and are also ideal for building houses, construction of railways etc.
• Plateaus have been store houses of minerals. This has led to the development of various industries. Mountains are important because many rivers originate from here. These rivers are able to sustain human and other life forms.
