Expert Answer
Early humans did not understand natural phenomena and were in fact scared of lightning, thunder, seasonal changes and natural calamities such as floods and earthquakes. Such phenomena were then seen as mysteries and beyond the realm of human knowledge. Therefore, humans began to worship the forces of nature and elements like such as sky, rain, Sun, thunder and lightning became Gods in their eyes. Ceremonies were conceptualised and performed in order to please these Gods. Humans may have had a concept of afterlife as well; when people were buried in the later period, daily-use items like pottery, tools, weapons and food were buried with them.
