Maharashtra Class 10 Answered
A spider was once spinning a web on a cold wintery morning in an attic of an old house on a quaint countryside. She had been working on it all day, as if on a timeline. Just as she was about to spin the last round, a rugged sweep from Martha’s mop cleaned the attic for Christmas but also broke the web.
The spider looked at her broken home, startled and sad, and didn’t know what to do! However, after a couple of moments, the spider started spinning another web in another corner where Martha’s mop wouldn’t reach.
After a couple of days, the web was complete, just in time for the spider to lay eggs. Now this time, she thought she had been lucky and could soon live in her cosy little home. But luck would have had it otherwise, a huge ball of snow came from nowhere and smashed into the web. The spider peeped through the broken window where she had spun her web and saw Martha’s children having a snowball fight outside their home.
It was Christmas Eve and Martha and her children were ready to put out milk and cookies for Santa before retiring to their rooms. But the spider lay in the corner of the cold, quiet attic, feeling defeated and disgruntled after having tried spinning the web at least five times. She decided to leave the place and go looking for a tree where no one would bother her. Just as she was going to swing down the attic window toward a tree in the garden, she heard a kitten mewling near the wall between Martha’s house and the neighbour’s. The poor little creature had fallen over and was unable to go back to her mother. But the kitten kept pursuing and after some tense moments was back with its mother, the cat.
