Commodities such as stone, timber and metal ores were scarce in Mesopotamia, and hence, these were traded in exchange of agricultural produce. Foreign trade was also flourishing in Mesopotamia and food grains and finished goods were exported to the Mediterranean countries and Egypt. Seals found in the Indus valley also prove that Mesopotamia had trade relations with India. The record of business accounts was generally kept on clay tablets, and trade and commerce flourished for a long time.
