The Constituent Assembly was the body that framed the Indian Constitution. It consisted of wide-ranging members that gave representation to all shades of public opinion. However, earlier the Cabinet Mission had planned to include only three categories for representation - the General Category, Muslims and Sikhs but, the Congress leaders ensured that other communities such as Indian Christians, Anglo-Indians, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes would also get an opportunity to be representatives. Therefore, it can truly be said that the Constituent Assembly was national in character.
