During the Neolithic Age or the New Stone Age, there was a sea change in the quality of the stone implements used. They were well shaped and polished. In this epoch, humans used digging sticks to till the soil and stone sickles to cut the crops. Axes became larger and were attached to wooden handles. Well-chiseled stone knives were used to cut plants, fruits and meat, and bone tools were also widely used.

Agriculture began in the Neolithic Age after humans discovered that wheat and barley were edible. It might have been observed by humans that when grains are buried in the soil, they yield food crops.

The Neolithic Age also saw the taming of animals to serve human needs. Various animals such as dogs, goats, sheep and cattle were domesticated. Such animals were the sources of milk, meat and hide for humans. Life became more safe and easy as humans did not need to go on hunting trips every now and then. Bullocks, donkeys and horses were also used later for ploughing fields.
