The Roman road system was one of its kind in its times. They were so well built that some of them are still in use, despite them being more than 2000 years old. Many roads in Britain and other parts of Europe still follow the routes worked out by the Romans. This extensive road network included 80,000 km of major roads and 3,22,000 km of secondary roads and linked together the large swathes of Roman territories. As a result, travel and communication within the empire was comfortable and safe.
