Cherrapunji, a town in Meghalaya receives an average annual rainfall of 11,500 mm, the maximum amount of annual rainfall in the world. Yet Cherrapunji suffers from water scarcity as the forests in the town have been chopped down. Since there are no trees to stop the flow of the monsoon water, it results in the rainwater flowing away quickly.
