- Modern farming method is used for higher yields. Yield is measured as crop is produced on a given piece of land during a single season. HYV promised seeds to produce greater amounts of grain on a single plant. Higher yields were possible only from a combination of HYV seeds, irrigation, chemical fertilizers and pesticides
- Multiple cropping mean to grow more than one crop on a piece of land during the year, to increase the production on given piece of land. Atleast, two main crops are grown in Palampur. Rabi crops are grown in the winter season from November to April. Two rabi crops are wheat and barley. Kharif crops are grown during the months of June to October. Two kharif crops are rice and bajra. And they grow potato as the third crop in the past fifteen to twenty years. A variety of crops could be grown all round the year because of the improved irrigation system. They used electric-run tube wells to irrigate the land effectively. So multiple crops can be grown through modern farming.
- Therefore, it is rightly said that both modern farming and multiple cropping include growing more than one crop on same piece of land during a year.
