A door will not move, if we apply force in the direction of the arm length. Why?

Door is connected to frame by hinges. To move the side of hinges, we need to apply torque to the side of hinges.
Since arm length of door is parallel to one side of hinges, force applied in the direction of arm length will not produce any
torque in the hinges. Hence the force should be perpendicular to the arm length direction to get maximum effect or
at an angle
